His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, graced the Opening Ceremony of Wasan Milling Company Sendirian Berhad's Upgraded Paddy Milling Facility, 12th November morning. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the nation in its ongoing efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in rice production.

 

Accompanying His Majesty were His Majesty's sons;

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office;

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;

- And His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

 

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy and Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications as the Acting Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism.

 

Doa selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Dato Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Awang Haji Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti. His Majesty officiated the Opening of the facility.

 

As an entity under Darussalam Assets, WMC is committed to contributing to the nation's food security through the milling and processing of local rice. The facility upgrade project which was fully completed in September includes a milling facility, four vertical dryers and three silos for storing dried paddy.

 

Fully operated by local employees, the facility also supports the country's food security objective by reducing dependence on imported rice. With this facility, it can increase the national rice milling capacity from 3 metric tonnes per hour to 10 metric tonnes per hour.

 

His Majesty also viewed the exhibition showcased by the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food and local companies on the use of smart farming and artificial intelligence. His Majesty then attended a luncheon.

 

Apart from strengthening the nation's agricultural value chain, this facility will also ensure a more resilient food future for the next generation.
